Fortunately, this issue can be easily fixed with a quick tune-up that takes just a few minutes of your time. Here’s a step-by-step guide to tighten your belts and keep your prints perfect.

Signs Your Belts Need Tightening

One of the most obvious signs that your belts need maintenance is layer shifting in your prints. If your previously smooth layers start looking misaligned or staggered, it’s a good indicator that one of the belts controlling the movement of the gantry or the bed has loosened. Tight belts are essential for precise movement, and even a slight slack can ruin your print.

To address this, start with the gantry belt:

  • Grab a 2.5mm Allen key (your trusty tool for 3D printer maintenance).

  • Locate the gantry belt tensioner on your printer.

  • Tighten the belt by adjusting the screws until it has just the right amount of tension—firm, but not too tight.

This small adjustment can make a huge difference in preventing misalignments in the X and Y axes.
